What Is Purple Team?

Purple Team is in some situations, organisations arrange to work with external resources by obtaining external services for their Red Team or Blue Team. The digital adversaries brought in as consultants to play the role of the red team may not share their attack techniques with the blue team, or may not be able to fully inform them about the weak points in the existing security infrastructure. At this point, the teams that provide communication and coordination between what we call the Red Team (kırmızı ekip) and the Blue Team (mavi takım) are called the Purple Team.

Purple Team is a term used to describe a red team and blue team working in harmony. These teams share their knowledge and insights with the organisation’s entire security team and management in order to improve the organisation’s overall security.

What Is Purple Team?

The Purple Team term emerged from the need to bring together and manage the actions taken in Red Team and Blue Team operations at a common point. The Purple Team concept represents the operational resource that is relatively distant from the technical operations of security and is concerned with the management of the process.

Depending on the organisation’s complexity and the technologies it employs, Purple Team members strengthen the synergy and mutual feedback of both groups in security processes. In essence, it provides information about the tactics of attackers and defence teams, as well as the techniques used by real cyber attackers, and aims to improve the blue team’s security processes.
